Wandering in Place – RISD Graduate Thesis

Using the implicit forms of framing and editing in photography as well as the literary form of redaction in texts my work is a venture in narrative re-telling.

In Reno I explore ideas of cultural memory and inheritance through the revision, reenactment and recounting of the myths of place, namely those of Reno, Nevada. The story of Reno is a known quantity, excavated from the archive and retold here through the medium of photography. Through images that investigate the theatrical enactment of documentary, the mythic properties of historicity, and the indefinite nature of the defined this series serves as my definitive redaction of the overarching myth of Reno.
