Jennifer Garza-Cuen
Profile: Jennifer Garza-Cuen is an artist, primarily concerned with the complex weave of social structures, with groups and sub-groups and our continued impulse to categories and define. Using poetic narrative and working in a constructed-documentary style she addresses pre-conceived ideals, assumptions and stereotypes within particular areas of society while refusing to subscribe to them. With a strong basis in the tradition of social commentary, Garza-Cuen is interested in posing questions or setting the scene in which questions will naturally form rather than to coming to conclusions or providing answers. Finally, as a former expatriate American, Garza-Cuen is primarily interested in American themes: American empire, society, regions, sub-cultures and their norms and customs as well as the idea of 'American-ness' as it effects her own, continuing, self-defining process.
